Harford Property Tax Revolt

Editor,
The citizens of Aberdeen are being double-taxed.
In the town of Aberdeen, we pay usage fees for our trash removal, for our water, and for our electric, the same as non-municipal Harford County residents.  The problem is that currently the property tax rate for a single-family owner-occupied residence in Aberdeen is $1.972 per $100 of assessed value. This is double the County rate minus the highway tax that we exclusively pay at the County level. The average homeowner in Aberdeen pays ~$4,000 per year in property taxes.  This is unacceptable!

Businesses that are seeking a location to operate in Harford County are likely to overlook our City as a result of the double taxes and extra regulations imposed by Aberdeen City Government. I know because I am a small businessman myself and I work with several companies in the area who share my concerns about Aberdeen.

In a time of economic downturn, we need jobs, we need growth, and we need to give citizens back their hard-earned tax dollars so that they can spend it to support their families and to buy the things they need to survive.

If we do not take action on this issue, Aberdeen will continue to lose prospective residents and businesses to other taxpayer-friendly locations just up the road on Route 40 or I-95.We must advocate for drastic cuts in the Aberdeen budget in order to make Aberdeen a more friendly business environment, a place where people can find jobs.

I am currently building a coalition of residents fed up with higher taxes and ready for economic growth and jobs to change business as usual in Aberdeen.  If you are interested in working with me by supporting this effort please call me at (410)701-0550.

Thanks,

Patrick McGrady

I live in Havre de Grace but pay property tax to Aberdeen. When I bought my house in 2004 I was told that I would only pay Harford county property tax which would be about $4,000.00. Now my property tax is $10,000.00. I would had never had bought this house.

It starts with you and me. Let's take them back!

Fair taxes for Harford County!
